Multi-Phasic Transformation Process

Traditional treatments of addictions developed over the past forty years have been based on various theoretical models of development. None of these addresses the complexities of addictions' impact on all facets of the functional self. This article presents a flexible "Multi-Phasic Transformation Process" (MPTP) model valuing Gestalt therapy principles and considers as its basis the "cycle of experience" as it relates to the progressive nature of growth and change in the process of transformation. The meaning of addiction and addict are redefined from this new MPTP perspective. Case materials will illustrate the treatment process, and appropriate therapeutic tasks will be suggested for each phase.

“Hearing Helga speak and explain the Multiphasic Transformation Process model was music to my ears. Not only am I a recovering alcoholic but also a substance abuse counselor. Helga gave me the understanding of how to make sense out of addiction beyond the disease concept. I’ll re-evaluate my understanding of myself in the light of these new learnings. I am sure that my clients will benefit hugely by my less judgmental attitude.”

“When I heard originally that you were giving Gestalt Therapy training for addiction treatment my first fear was “oh not gain – pound pillows and screaming to get nastiness out of my system. “Still my curiosity paid off in the most beneficial manner. I finally realized what organismic self-regulation meant, co-creating my life with others, and the theory of change. From a Gestalt Perspective. I am proud to say that I am no longer an “Adult Suckling” Mr. Perls

“This eBook is a wonderful condensation of some extremely useful and humane treatment concepts of addiction. While very different in many respects from other treatment philosophies, I found that it most closely aligned with what is actually studied in the field. Neuroscience, and subjective experiencing/phenomenology.
As a director of an addiction treatment agency, Helga will hopefully agree to become a consultant for my staff. So that they can apply these skills to our deserving population.”
